Once upon a time, I drank Coors Light. I drank it loyally and heartily. Along with my college friends, we drank it by the sixer, the 12 stack, and the 30 rack.
I know what you’re thinking. What the hell gives me the right to write about craft beer then?!
Well, I also wore MC Hammer pants in the 90’s. (Oh please – like you didn’t.)
I’ve since learned the error of my ways on both fronts. These days you’ll find me mostly in jeans (modern looking jeans, I assure you) and sipping a carefully crafted brew at a local beer bar or brewery. Where you won’t find me is anywhere near Coors or any of it’s flavorless friends (you know who I’m talking about).
After graduation, I took a corporate job and, because I was simply looking for some supplementary income, I applied for a position as a server at a craft beer bar. I had fallen in love with the place about a year before and frequented it regularly; it was what ignited my passion for craft beer in the first place. Working there only furthered my obsession, as I was becoming more and more interested in what I was doing at my second job rather than the one I assumed would become my “career”.
Finally, I made the decision to quit my day job and pursue a life that revolved entirely around beer. I moved from the East Coast to the West, where I now spend my days studying and selling beer, and I couldn’t be happier about it.
Gone are those college days when my friends and I thought that watered down light lager was actually beer. Unfortunately, many of the girls that helped me through those silver bullets are still sipping the stuff, or they’re so scarred from it that they’ve condemned beer altogether.
My goal with GAB (AKA Girls for the Advancement of Beer AKA Girls for the Advancement of Craft Beer through Knowledge and Education), is to help cultivate a community of women who have a similar obsession with quality suds. I want to talk about my beer experiences and hear about yours!
Let’s use this blog as a forum to further our affinity for craft beer, and to help spread the word to women who still say they don’t drink beer because it’s too fattening, or too heavy, or for guys only (or because they drank too much light lager in college).
Let’s shed some favorable light on a drink that’s finally getting the credit it deserves! I hope you enjoy being a part of GAB as much as I enjoy writing about it.

Fantastic fantastic stuff. I’ll keep checking back to get suggestions and learn even more. I’m thinking of doing a special friday post-a list of beers that girls scared of beer/girls who drink wine at beer bars (like gingerman last night- i almost died) should try. Any of your personal favorites?
